All THings Bright and Beautiful

Posted by maymorning on June 16, 2016 at 3:55 PM

Over the May Bank Holiday weekend 2016 we had our first flower festival for many years.  Karen Belfield organised it, and Loretta Ogden Froud oversaw the catering.  Over 20 exhibits were created by church groups, individuals, community gorups and traders.  The church looked and smelled wonderful, the the homemad cakes were very popular too! Take a look at the photo album.  It was a great success, and Karen is already planning the next one.

A Family service at a favourite time of year, when we give thanks for the blessings of creation, and remember our responsibilities to the planet and to each other.  In the afternoon we have a Bring and share tea followed by Hymns of Praise.   The church always looks beautiful for these services.  Our theme this year is Feasting and Fasting.

All change!

Posted by maymorning on August 27, 2015 at 12:45 AM

As we approach the end of August, we reach the "official" date for the departure of our Minister, Barry Bishop, and his wife Anne.  In fact, Barry has been taking leave, and his farewell service was on July 19th.  (see photo album for pictures of Barry's presentation and farewell tea).  Barry is not moving far, as he will be taking on churches around Hanham, and we wish him and Anne well in their next step. On September 6th we look forward to meeting our new minister, Rev Jane Ashplant, who will be formally welcomed to the Circuit, along wiht outher new ministers, at St.Mary Redcliffe on Saturday 5th.  These changeovers are always a time of excitement and challenge for all concerned, and we pary for God's blessing over the enxt few months.

Don't miss this multi-media event, which will be presented here on June 20th at 7.30pm  The Hotwells Howlers ( have researched and created this commemoration of the impact of the Great War on the people of Bristol and the West, featuring many forgotten songs, poems and pictures of the period, including the wonderful song of the title, by an unknown composer.

The Friends of Bristol Museum, for whom this was performed in November 2014,  called it "a truly memorable event …..They had obviously researched the topic thoroughly ….and put together for us a professional performance which was informative, humorous and poignant"

Philippa and Aylwyn get married!

Posted by maymorning on July 1, 2014 at 6:55 AM

Last Saturday the church fellowshio turned out in force to join friends and family in celebrating the wedding of Philippa and Aylwyn.  Despite torrential rain and hail in the morning,  the weather turned kind for the event, and the bride looked stunning in red!  Next day we were treated to coffee and wedding cake after the morning service.  Philippa and Aylwyn do so much for the church, and we are delighted to wish them a happy ever after.
